“Secretariat” is a historical drama, directed by Randall Wallace and based on real events. It’s a remarkable journey through life and career of Penny Chenery - a daughter of an owner of horse stables, situated in Virginia.
Penny is a common housewife and a mother, having almost no knowledge about horses, stables and horse-racing. But when her ailing father realizes, that his days are numbered, his daughter has to navigate his business by her own. It’s really hard for the woman, taking into account the fact, that this sort of business is dominated mostly by men, who have appropriate skills in contrast to Penny Chenery.
With the assistance of Lucien Laurin, a veteran trainer, Penny plunges gradually into the world of horse-racing to be able to compete with other stable owners. She faces many difficulties, including high inheritance tax and business competition, on her way to success. But she doesn’t give up.
In 25 years Chenery understands, that she has succeeded in horse-racing business, when her first thoroughbred named Secretariat becomes the winner of the Triple Crown.
The film stars Diane Lane in the role of Penny Chenery and John Malkovich as Lucien Laurin. The scenario of the film is written by Mike Rich and William Nack.
